Look for Your Mentees

No vision can be fulfilled during the lifetime of a visionary which is why identifying successors should form a pivotal aspect of executing your vision. From Bible evidence, it must be God’s idea, even in the family, for parents to mentor their children in the carriage of the family legacy.

As John C. Maxwell noted, ‘No one is ever successful without successors. ‘ And no matter what you currently do, there are people on our journey that ought to be your mentees.

But in Africa, leaders often do not take the time to look out mentees, let alone train them. And when they do mentor it’s often not with the right motives. Poor succession planning is the number one reason why African businesses rarely last three generations.

Looking actively for mentees is the sole responsibility of leadership and not vice versa. Jesus, the ultimate leader, went after his mentees; picking a vast array of men and women from all works of life to be his apprentices.

The Bible is strewn with this idea from Jacob the patriarch to David the king, strengthening my belief that it is God’s will for leaders to train and appoint their successors, and not leave it to chance.

If you have achieved any level of success in life, maybe it’s time to start passing the baton of your vision by deliberately picking out someone to mentor. That’s the secret to great leadership.

As Dr. Myles Munroe said, ‘To become a great leader you must be able to mentor leaders that are greater than yourself.’

2018: Information vs Knowledge [Must Read]

Information and knowledge have never been the same thing, even though I don’t know why we approach their acquisition alike. Perhaps, the education system is responsible for this gaffe. We sit down in class, church or seminars and just soak in the information without learning anything. And then wonder why we’re the same every year.

Information is passive. You listen. And many times than not, we listen for the sake of listening. And if we find subject boring, we simply shut it out and move on to the next activity, easy and simple.

Knowledge on the other hand, is active. You have to do to know. And I know this sounds contrived but this is the secret of the ages. It is why all the sermons you heard or the books you read made very little difference. To you, they were just information and not knowledge; a collection of stories to listen to and forget afterwards. You took no notes. You could rehearse the information from the notes you had taken and so you learnt nothing.

In 2018, go everywhere with a notepad and a camera. Be ready to capture new things coming to you as information. Knowledge is first acquired by taking notes. And then, acting on the information you got.

The moment you commit pen to paper something happens in your subconscious that triggers actual learning to take place. This is the background that all teachers of goal setting do not really mention. It is why a goal committed to paper in your own handwriting is ten times more likely to be achieved than a goal that stays a mental note.

If this is the only hack you apply in 2018, I think it would go a very long way in helping you become a better person.

After all, the Chinese say, ‘the palest ink is better than the best memory.’ While the former focuses on knowledge, the latter surrenders to being informed.

Leadership By Affiong Ene-Obong

Leadership is about YOU. It’s about the responsibility you have towards yourself; the legal right and moral obligation to engage in a task without recognition, reward or applause. When there are no expectations, reward or applause and your goal can be achieved with and for others, you are a leader.Leadership is characterized by your attitude- your perception to life and lives of others which has absolutely nothing to do with your position in your environs or the society at large.

A man is not just a male or human being, one who displays the qualities of strength, courage, valor, husband, father, boyfriend or any other attribute peculiar to the gender as leadership isn’t associated with gender, leadership is solely dependent on responsibility.

A leadership trait can be discovered in a person through the behavior-Its behavior that determines if the person can execute tasks (responsibility) that would shape the lives of others not the desire to be powerful or famous.

Leadership revolves around four components:

• Person – the individual who is determined to take up responsibility based on the legal rights and moral obligations without fear or favor which largely depends on behavior (actions or inactions) and perception.

• People- the humans making up a group who have common interest play a vital role in our quest to engage in a task. They watch the individual to ensure he or she engages in the task effectively to produce an end result. A leader must be prepared for criticisms, appraisal from time to time as he climbs the leadership ladder.

• Process- a leader must evolve and enjoy every step as he climbs the leadership ladder

• Performance- a leader must execute his actions taking cognizance of his actions and inactions at every stage. Failure and risks are inevitable but perseverance and believe are key.

A leader must have the heart of a dove; display meekness in every way even when people criticize or spite the individual. However, the leader should apply wisdom and tact when executing his or her responsibilities. A leader must have the skin of a rhinoceros; thick skinned and not a leopard that changes its skin.

Energy management should be a leader’s primary task; He or she should be able to multi-task to execute what he believes could shape lives and change the world.

No one is born great. We strive to be better based on our believes and experiences

One true fact remains; there are no great leaders, there are great principles

One question we should ask ourselves is, ‘’If you are leader, would you want to follow yourself?’’

Christ In You

Christianity is not a religion. And this isn’t about making cliches or semantics. Christianity is the vivacious life of God infused and operative in a person.

Before Jesus came and died, God our Father would provisionally let Christ come upon certain people for certain specific purposes and then it would lift off of them when that purpose was accomplished. It was given by measure unto them.

But when Jesus came, He came as the Christ -the Overflow of God’s wisdom and ability-for the Bible declares that He (Jesus) whom God had sent speaketh the Word of God for God has not given to Him the Spirit by measure unto Him (see John 3:34). Jesus was the first to come with the Overflow of God’s anointing.

Now, we who are in Christ have been born into this Overflow of wisdom and power. It was what was meant in 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 when the Bible declared:

If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold all things have become new. And all things are of God…

‘Behold’ is the operative word in these verses. It means that in Christ we are to behold the newness of life; the harmonization of our lives with that of Almighty God by Jesus Christ.

We are one with God.

But beyond being in Christ, Christ is in you. When you got Born Again, you didn’t just get immersed into Christ, Christ sipped into you too through and through; giving you the assurance that you share in God’s wisdom and power.

It is a mystery but know this, if it is possible with God, you too can achieve it in Christ and with Christ in you.

No Matter How Bad It Gets, Meditate

Christ–the Anointed One and His Anointing–is not constrained by how bad a situation gets.

Look at Jesus. Four days Lazarus was dead but yet He asked that the lid of the grave where Lazarus laid be rolled away.  You know the story. Lazarus lived again.

If Jesus is God’s Word manifested, imagine the possibilities you can experience just interacting with the Word of God. And that’s exactly what meditating on the Word is.

If you can meditate on God’s Word about the solution to whatever challenge you are faced with long enough, and let it impregnate your heart with a ‘knowing’ that you are healed of that cancer, or free of that debt, you can bring that unseen into the seen; the divine into the earthy.
It doesn’t get bad enough for the Word of God not to work. Even a dead marriage, dead ministry, dead nation can be raised if you can meditate long enough.

Just put the relevant scriptures together and meditate!

How To Get Anything You Want

In Christ, you can have everything you have ever imagined; a beautiful family, happiness, health and wealth; and here is how:

By meditating on God’s Word about whatever it is that you want.

Trust me, the Word of God contains the anointing. And a quick definition of what the anointing is; is that it is a substance of God that destroys burdens and removes yokes (according to Isaiah 10:27) capable of delivering to you God’s intent in any situation, location or context.

Sickness is a yoke, and so is debt, the inability to find a spouse or pay bills when they fall due. It is a burden to have to endure depression, business failure or failure in your marriage. Everyone knows this because of the pain that comes with such circumstances.

Now, the Lord Jesus Christ (the manifested Word of God) came for one purpose alone: that we who believe in Him should have His life and live it to the fullest (See John 10:10 and 1  John 3:8); and not be subject to pain of defeat.

That said, to meditate on God’s word in the Christian context means to ponder, mutter, devise, confess and shout it until your spirit is bubbling up with it in your prayer and general conduct. It is how you bring the anointing, that yoke destroying, burden removing substance into your affairs.

So whatever you are faced with, get into the scriptures, make a list of what God’s anointed words say about it from the Bible and begin to meditate upon them.

In ending this piece, allow me to quote two scriptural references as the it is biblical rule that in the mouth of two or more witnesses, a matter is established (See 2 Corinthians 13:1 and Matthew 18:16)

  1. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful (Joshua 1:8)
  2. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. (1 Timothy 4:15)

Everything you have ever wanted, if meditated on for long enough, will be manifested to you. Don’t struggle like the rest of the world. You are different.

Take time to study Matthew 6: 31-33. Meditating is the way to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.

Shalom!
